Anatomy of a bird. . .more

I need to tell you here at the beginning that I write this blog off the top of my head. . .I do not edit my writing. So don't even think about that part. I just want you to know how some of this is done without stressing myself. If I tried to make it perfect it would never get done. . .
Snap shot

I sometimes sculpt a face or head for some of the birds out of porcelain or even Sculpey clay depending upon the time I have or alternatively I may paint a face on fabric or onto porcelain which has to be fired, again, and again. But, I usually draw it first. Or should I say sketch.  . . I am pretty loose with this; just thinking on paper. Or I might felt a ball to dye and embroider upon. The point of this is to let the fiber tell me what to do.
I just try to remain open.

Hardware stores are great places to visit for wire and other items. I spend a lot of time while my hubby is buying wood or whatever walking up and down the isles, by myself, just thinking. I discovered plastic tubing in differing sizes. From Sur Le Table (sp) I buy bamboo skewers for barbecues, but, I use them a lot to stabilize the bird legs when I use plastic tube. Then I knit with Habu fiber I-cord to cover the length of the tube, sometimes.
I use other items as well. But, that is another story for another day. . .

Sorry

Sorry for extra posts, if you are one who received one of my e-mails in triplicate, sorry about that, too.

If you see things moving around on this page it is that I am still trying to set-up this blog. Please  be patient  with me until then. I am running into some glitches with linking, as well.
The great thing is that there are about 50 purple crocus blooming under the pine tree in front of the kitchen window.
I will be posting more on the anatomy of the bird piece in the next couple of days.

Hope you have a blessed day!xoxo

Soap Box Story

A few years ago, I wrote a story about How The XXX Stole Christmas. It started with the fact that every single time I walked into Barnes and Noble Book Store I set off alarms. It so happens that I am one of those  people having a wardrobe of many duplicates of basic items like bluejeans and T-shirts, etc.  This wardrobe gets washed and dried many many times This wardrobe has something sewn into it. This something is made by XXX. The story had to do with Santa and his sleigh and that children wanted new jeans for Christmas. . .

Ok, so we all know that even cloth can be made from  fibers which can be electronic.

Think about that.

This morning I received e-mail from the feltmakers group that reminded me of that story. They are talking about why and how this can be used with felting.

"Fashionable Technology" by Sabine Seymore is a great book to read. It will stand the hair on your neck.
As a matter of fact I just downloaded a copy onto my Kindle HD just so I can re-read this while waiting.

It is amazing what good things can be done with fiber. As in using it in sculptural pieces or in medicine. But. ..I hate the idea that marketing people can track how you smell, what you touch, how long you look at a product, etc! They can know where you are at any given moment.

Ok, now I have warned you. I will step off of this box.

Never do anything you wouldn't want anyone to know.

A Good Teacher

The first thing I have to tell you about the techniques I learned is
this: I have a great book,

                                                  Fabulous-Woven-Jewelry-Plaiting-Knotting

I learned from following her examples. I worked and worked until it became second nature. It took this book as a starting point. I suggest that if you would like to learn these techniques you begin with this book.
Mary has several books out and they are wonderful  Some day I would love to meet her, myself.

Experimenting is what I do. That is the next idea.

It is Friday!
I hope you all have a glorious weekend!

Anatomy of a Bird next

Examples of Meditation Bird #1
You can see that some of the Habu is woven
along with the linen thread.
Please do not copy my work.
I show you this to inspire your creative imagination.
I will share with you how and why
I taught myself.

Part One of Anatomy

The Anatomy of a Bird

Part One

The tiny baskets are the beginning of the form for the birds I make.

The bottom is where it all begins.
As I go, I make decisions intuitively as to the shape it will take.

The linen thread I use to weave the tiny baskets is
waxed and is made in Ireland from
Crawford Threads Ltd.  I buy 50 gram, 4 cord, #18.
It is quite enough to make a few small items.

Habu Textiles
A28-10

Habu is my favorite store to buy interesting fibers.
New York City
I use metal, paper, novelty, and natural fibers of wool,
silk, cotton, etc.

See the last post to view my current project.

On The Line

So here i swing and swing and swing.
just a light line
in between some darkness
or a bump on a log

Thinking of hmmmm
what do you really want?

Like Grhs Steve Jobs.

I have no clue. . .

It is a MYSTERY to me???

And so. . .

I sit about folding origami,

I think up stories to write on yellow sticky notes,

(my journals are yellow and very very small),

I take a snapshot,

I read something wonderful,

I watch lots of movies,

I write this blog.

Of what I do. . .

What I use. . .

and sometimes

There is no end. . .

The Yellow Streak

"The newspaper smelled. It made me sneeze. The edges were buried in mud when I pulled it out. It sat on the porch swing for days. Dry now. It makes me wonder why. Why do I keep this sort of thing?
The center of the thick black line contained a yellow streak which once was white, I am sure. I read the type inside the black line with the yellow streaked center shaped into a rectangle, out loud, mind you." - THE BIRD
